Automatic Door Installation

We survey the opening, specify the operator and sensors for how the door will actually be used, install and commission it, and service it afterwards.
An automatic door is three parts working together: the leaf, the operator that moves it, and the sensors that decide when it opens. Most problems we are called out to fix start when those were chosen separately. We specify them together, from the width of the opening, the weight of the leaf, the traffic through the door and how the building is used, so the door opens when someone arrives and does not close on them.
We measure the opening, check the track or header space, the power supply position and the floor, and ask how many people use the door each day.
The operator and track are chosen for the weight and width of the leaf, not only the size of the opening.
Motion sensors open the door as people approach; safety sensors stop it closing on anyone in the doorway.
The same team installs, commissions and later services the door, and can replace an operator on a door fitted by someone else.
Types of Automatic Doors We Install
Which type fits depends on the width of the opening, the space beside and in front of it, how many people use it each day and what the building needs from it in an emergency. We recommend after seeing the opening, not from a catalogue.
Entrances & Offices
Automatic sliding glass doors are the standard for shop, office, clinic and mall entrances. The panels run on a track, so they need no swing space, and a sensor opens them as people approach. Single-sliding suits narrower openings; bi-parting doors, with two panels moving apart, suit wide ones. Break-out panels can be added where an escape route calls for them.
Hinged Openings
An automatic swing door moves a hinged leaf with an operator fitted to the header or frame. It suits openings with no room for a sliding track, entrances that already have hinged doors, and accessible doors opened with a push button. The swing area has to stay clear, so the sensors cover the arc of the door.
Limited Wall Space
Telescopic doors stack two or more panels over each other as they open. Where there is little wall beside the opening, that gives a wider clear opening than a standard sliding door of the same size. They suit shop fronts, corridors and lobbies where the width is fixed. More on our telescopic doors page.
Flush Finishes
Concealed automatic sliding doors hide the track and operator in the ceiling or wall, so the door sits flush when closed. They suit clinics, offices and homes where the finish matters as much as the movement. The wall or ceiling has to be planned for the door before building work starts.

INSTALLATION PROCESS
Every automatic door project starts with the opening and the building’s requirements, then moves through survey, quotation, supply, installation and commissioning.
Discuss where the door is, who uses it and how often, the look you want, and whether it sits on an escape route.
We measure the opening and check the track or header space, the power supply position, the floor and the wall or glass the door fixes to.
A written quotation covers the leaf, operator, sensors, any access control or break-out requirement, and installation.
Once approved, glass, finish and operator are confirmed and the door is made or ordered to the surveyed size.
The track, leaf and operator are fitted and aligned, and power and control wiring are connected.
Opening speed, closing force, sensor coverage and safety stops are set and tested before handover, with operating guidance for your team.

It depends on the type of door, the opening width, the glass or frame, the operator, the sensors, and any access control, break-out or battery backup the building needs. We give a written quotation after measuring the opening, so the price matches the actual door.
A motion sensor above the door detects people approaching and tells the operator to open it. Separate safety sensors watch the doorway so the door does not close on someone standing in it. Push buttons, access cards and remote controls can be added where a door should not open for everyone.
That depends on how the door is specified. Many sliding doors can be pushed open by hand when the power is off, and a battery backup can be added so the door keeps working or opens fully. Doors on an escape route need a break-out or fail-safe arrangement, which we confirm against the building’s requirements before quoting.
Often yes. A hinged or sliding door can usually be fitted with an operator if the leaf is not too heavy and the frame and fixings can take the extra load. We check the door, the frame and the power supply on site before confirming.
Sliding doors need no swing space and suit busy entrances, which is why most shop, mall and office entrances use them. Swing doors suit openings with no room for a track, or an existing hinged door that is being automated. The right choice comes from the space beside and in front of the opening.
